I know, it's been a while. I've been doing a lot of writing, plus the full-time job and the whole "mother" deal. I'm crap but what can ya do?
We took my daughter to the pediatrician yesterday for her 6 month check-up. She's 21lb 12oz and 26". Healthy girl.
We didn't get to see the hot pediatrician this time. Instead we got the "overly laid-back pediatrician". When you first meet her as a brand new parent, her way of saying "no big deal" to everything is really comforting. But over time, as you start to develop actual individual opinions about things and voice them, "no big deal" is no longer comforting-- it's ANGERING.
I told her yesterday that because I'm a behaviorist, I wanted to start stopping into the pediatrician's office here and there just to say hello and then leave. The point of this, as I explained, was to disengage an association of doctor-pain. She agreed with a smile and told me that would "OF COURSE" be no problem.
...but then as she continued to reassure me that this request would be fulfilled without issue, she added in "I don't see the point until she's a little older, but that's fine." She didn't stop there. She kept mixing in sneaky versions of "you're being ridiculous" with "that's a smart idea, absolutely."
Did she think I didn't notice? This is the whole reason we switched to the other guy in the practice in the first place.
I think next time when she asks how my daughter is doing, I'll use her tactics on her. I'll say, "she's absolutely fine, we're doing really well, I mean, she's really started to get used to the wooden crate we put her in all day, so yeah, things are fantastic. Thanks."

That's a great Idea! I would have never considered doing something like that. Now I wish My pediatrician office was closer.
I am glad you got back to your blog, I cannot even begin to fathom how busy your life is. I always admire your work, and I am willing to wait to read it.
Thank you for all the kind words. It definitely helps! I'll be working on the WTE blog tonight. There's been tons of changes on guidelines and platform so I think it's safe to get going now-- I think...
Your welcome, I appreciate all the "cyber" help I have received from you. I am thankful to have met you online - and if you ever become some Famous Therapist with your own show, I expect you to bring some of the Dysfunctional women from WTE on your show! Maybe you can "fix" them, LOL :P
But for now I will sit patiently and await new blogs....
LOL @ the wooden crate. She probably wouldn't even notice.
First, welcome back. Seriously. A shot of Ecko is always good for my health.
Second, when she gets older, you'd think it would be LESS helpful than now. In the future, you can have conversations with her about going to the doctor. Now it's all about experience, right?
